Remembrance Service

A Remembrance Service was held at St Andrew’s Church on 22nd November 2017.

The Church was packed with children, parents, members of the local community and invited guests who played an active part in the service.

Children from the two participating primary schools had had music workshops prior to the event where they had learned songs from the WW1 era. They sang and danced during the service, which was led by Rev Penny Leeman from St Andrew’s Church. Community leaders such as the deputy Mayor of Maghull, the Police Inspector for South Sefton Community Hub and School Nurses read suitable poems and letters from the First World War. Young  people from Maricourt High School sang a beautiful version of “I vow to thee my country” and The Maghull Parish Handbell Ringers gave a moving rendition of “In Flanders Fields”.

As the 44 names of the fallen from Maghull were read out, they were represented by youngsters and adults carrying lit candles, and a bugler played “The Last Post” and “Reveille”. Representatives from the schools and the Fire Service laid poppy wreaths. It was a fitting tribute to those who had died and fought in the Great War.
