Stories, information and resources about World War 1 in the Maghull area
In 2017 two Maghull primary schools – St George’s and Summerhill – worked together on a local history project to learn about and to honour the lives of the local soldiers who fought and died in WW1. The project was financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund from its special ‘First World War – then and now’ pot.
The two schools worked in a collaborative partnership with HLF, local historians and Sefton Library Service. This website is the result of that collaboration.
Our short video turns the spotlight on the range of events and activities that formed the WW1 Maghull project.
It includes pupils from our two partner schools – St George’s Primary School and Summerhill Primary School – taking part in digital research workshops run by Sefton Libraries.
And, chefs from the Junior Chefs Academy visited the schools to share knowledge of the types of food ate during the Great War.
The video also features the Real History workshops and the remembrance service, as well as listing the soldiers from Melling who gave their lives in the war.
