Private William Lockett

Served with: King’s (Liverpool Regiment) Died: 20th September 1917

William lived on Melling Mount, but came to Maghull to enlist in the 8th Battallion (Liverpool Irish), King’s (Liverpool Regiment). He died in the last throes of the Third Battle of Ypres, known as Passchendaele. In the valley of the Steenbeke, the conditions were so bad that some men drowned in the mud. Private Lockett’s exact fate is not known. He is commemorated at Tyne Cot memorial.
