Born in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, where his father was the postmaster, Neville married Mary Gordon, daughter of Dr Gordon of High Pastures, Maghull, and after whom Gordon Avenue is named. He served as a lieutenant in the Coldstream Guards, and died of wounds in November 1917, aged 30, during the Battle of Cambrai. He is buried in Rocquigny-Equancourt cemetery, France.
