Henry was the son of a former Fleet Paymaster, Colonel Elliott of the Royal Marines Light Infantry. He was married to Julia, and they lived in Paignton, Devon. Henry, who was based upon HMS Eagle, Liverpool, contracted pneumonia and was treated at Quarry Bank House, the home of Frank Hornby, creator of Dinky, Mecanno and model railways, the officers’ equivalent of Maghull Military Hospital. The house is now part of Maricourt High School. Probate was granted to his widow totalling £373 17s 3d. Rather than transport his body back home to Devon she chose to bury her husband at St Andrew’s Church, Maghull, where his grave is marked by a red marble cross.
